The Library Journal has announced their “Movers and Shakers” 2007.   This year’s winners include bloggers Casey Bisson, Helen Blowers, Nicole Engard and Michael Casey, just to name a few.  You can check out what they are reading and link to their profiles at “Movers’ Media Diet”.

Movers and Shakers are peer nominated and are recognised by the Library Journal as “breaking down barriers” in their various departments.   Past Movers and Shakers have included John Blyberg, Rachel Singer Gordon and Marylaine Block.

Perhaps inCite/ALIA could consider a similar honour system for Australians, giving recognition beyond the current range of national and state-based awards?

Funny, I’ve had the same thought.

While I may have had that thought and entertained grand ideas of being one of that number (yes, I suffer from extreme delusions of grandeur), I think I much prefer Time’s recent approach and reckon any such effort should acknowledge all librarians and not some selected few.

What I really like about the LJ awards is that I get to read about a bunch of people and projects I’ve never heard of before.

And Time’s ‘you’ approach excludes almost everyone I know.
