If you have missed this earlier, here’s the news and if you knew already, here’s an update.
On February 25th, 2011, the National Library of Australia officially launched the Australian Women’s Weekly digital archive on Trove. NLA has digitised all available issues of this iconic magazine from 1933 to 1982, with permission from Australian Consolidate Press and in association with the State Library of New South Wales.
You can search all issues, browse the covers over the years, read complete individual issues and subscribe to the RSS feed so you know when new issues are added.
If you want some more ideas on getting the most out of this wonderful archive, or just learn more about the how it works check out Paul Hagon’s blog posts – Trove and the Australian Women’s Weekly and
Australian Women’s Weekly visual timeline. (thanks Paul).
So go check out what was big for Australian Women in the week (or month) you were born, or got married, or had kids or another other big event you choose. The week of my birth the cover title was “Rhapsody in Furs”.! You can giggle at the advertisements and probably some of the articles too.
Take the time to explore, you’ll not only learn something, you’ll have fun doing so.
