Getting buy-in for Library2.0 ideas

Posted March 22nd 2007 @ 9:02 pm by Kathryn Greenhill

A casual conversation around our thali table resulted in this experimental post.

We were discussing how to get staff and/or management to support (or even pay attention to) initiatives like internal blogs or a Flickr account for a library or podcasting. We all had a lot to say and were rather, well, passionate about it.

Let them play

We’d like to get other Australian Library bloggers involved in the conversation. Just make a post on your blog around the theme “Getting buy-in from management and staff for Library 2.0 ideas”. Title it however you want, discuss whichever aspect of it you want, and if your blog doesn’t do automatic trackbacks, post a link to it in the comments for this post.

Of course, if you don’t already have a blog, you could buy in and start one so you can play too. Blogger and wordpress are great places to start.

Sometime I guess we just have to do it and lead by example, it’s always scary at first but at least we have tried (for my library’s case), it’s all it matters. Cheers.

Why not create a common user name and password, give it to all staff so they can add a few comments if they so feel inclined. Some staff may feel intimidated about creating a blog, some may never use it again, so if there was a common one they could all use it and then they might feel more inclined to make contributions they may even decide they like the idea and create their own blog later
