There are only 7 months remaining until the exciting and innovative ALIA National Library & Information Technicians Conference 2007, to be held at the Grand Hyatt Melbourne. The dates for this event are Tuesday 9 – Friday 12 October 2007, so mark them in your diary and start making your travel plans!
The call for abstracts closes on February 28th and we encourage you to contribute to the success of the conference. Contributions are invited for conference papers, tutorials and interactive workshop presentations that fit within the daily themes of Innovation, Initiation and Inspiration.
The Committee have been considering the implications of the possibility of the university sector adopting the recommendations from the Research Quality Framework, in which publications, including conference papers, will contribute to the quality assessment of academic institutions. As a result, the Melbourne LT conference will be breaking new ground by calling for, and distinguishing between, refereed and non-refereed presentations, in line with the Research Quality Framework proposed by the Department of Education, Science and Training (DEST).
Abstracts should be a maximum of 350 words. If you wish to submit an abstract for consideration by the Program Committee, you must also intend to register for the Conference.
Please note that first time presenters will be offered coaching in presentation skills.
For more information and suggestions for relevant topics, please visit the conference website: http://www.alia07.com/, or contact the Convenor, Gail Schmidt, [email protected]. [Note: please remove spammers' deterrent to use the email address!]

Officially, I’m not a tech, but work unassisted in a one-person library, so find myself doing what is considered to be a tech’s job. I hope and trust this will be a great conference, as all ALIA events, great and small typically are.
