New on the ALIA pages, a survey to discover more about the Australian LIS workforce. It may take 30 minutes of your time to complete, but this will be valuable information for the profession. The project is led by Gillian Hallam.
There is considerable anecdotal evidence about the challenges facing the profession, about people leaving the sector and about the ‘greying of the profession’. Through the neXus census, the researchers seek to capture accurate data about the LIS workforce in Australia, both currently employed and retired, recent graduates embarking on a new career in LIS and students currently enrolled in LIS studies. Hi Peta and everyone, I’ve just listened to Gillian Hallam talk about this survey at Click 06 and will blog about it later today, but in the meantime, yes, we should all be completing this survey! It’s going to provide very useful information for planning for the future of our profession.

There’ll be a session on it at NLS2006 as well, focusing on newgrad issues.
I just took the survey online, it took 20 minutes but I think it was well-spent. Gave me a good chance to think about what development I am interested in and where I see myself in 10 years time (eep!) and when I plan to retire (double eep!).
