Using Blogs and Wikis to Communicate with Clients

Posted August 10th 2006 @ 7:58 am by

Hello, for those living in QLD who are interested in blogs and wikis for client communication in libraries, Chelsea Harper and myself will be presenting a session on ‘Using Blogs and Wikis to Communicate with Clients’ at the next QULOC Session ‘Communicating with Clients Using New Technologies’ on the 28th August. http://www.quloc.org.au/

For the interest of those who will not be attending the session we will post the PPT from the session to our research wiki after the session at http://www.seedwiki.com/wiki/libraryblogswikis

On another note, we have recently had a paper for Information Online conference 2007 accepted titled ‘Blogs, Wikis and Reference Services: Surveying the Australian Library Landscape’. It is in this paper we will be presenting the results of the sampled survey conducted earlier this year of Australian Library uses of blogs and wikis.

Cheers, Kate.

Hi Maryanne, There were a lot of people interested in your promotional blog signature! You may have some uni librarians contacting you to chat about it.
    Cheers, Kate.

Hey Kate, I haven’t heard so far but for anyone browsing Librariesinteract you can get the promotional blog signature from Feedburner http://www.feedburner.com. I use this site to manage my feed and they have lots of cool features like the animated promotional signature which scrolls through the last few blog entries. Best thing…it’s free.

Oh….somebody told me my blog was mentioned at Click06. Was that you Kate? Anyhoo thanks!
    Cheers, webgurl

Hi Maryanne, no it wasnt me.
Hey, but I have noticed Bond University Librarians now use the blog email signature style of yours that was highlighted in our QULOC presentation!
    Cheers, Kate.

I have been using it for quite a long time for the Bond library blog, but only recently have others started using it. The tricky part is finding an easy way to add the html code to the signature file. Some email apps make it easier than others. Webmail applications are more difficult, or impossible. We found the easiest way to do it was to create the html file and ask users to save it to the folder on their C drive where their signatures were saved. Then, they could just edit the file in Outlook to add their personal details.

Otherwise, the Advanced edit option had to be used and different people had different editors opening up and they weren’t sure what to do next.

Feedburner provides instructions for various email applications.
