There are no plans to blog every day here, but if anyone wants to try writing a post without setting up their own blog, please register and writings on any LIS topic are welcome.

If you want to join in, let @flexnib know so she can add you to the list.

If you want to follow along then you can add everyone on the afore-mentioned list into your favourite RSS feed reader or follow her Twitter list – as participants will probably tweet when they have posted.

Or take a look at the #blogjune tag board which captures tweets, instagrams, facebook updates, and more with the hashtag #blogjune.

Or, I’ve subscribed to all the participant blogs and shared the feeds on this my Netvibes page.

Library Day in the Life Round 8 http://librariesinteract.info/2012/01/22/library-day-in-the-life-round-8/ http://librariesinteract.info/2012/01/22/library-day-in-the-life-round-8/#comments Sun, 22 Jan 2012 05:25:08 +0000 Michelle http://librariesinteract.info/?p=2064 Yes its back yet again!  Library Day in the Life Round 8, will run from Monday 30th January to Sunday 5th February.

You can share a day, days or your whole librarian week, through blogging, tweeting, pictures, video or however else you are inspired.

To participate, register at the Library Day in the Life wiki and then record your (choose time period) in the life of you as a librarian, for others to discover the joys of how varied work as a librarian is, both here and around the world.

Then watch the same wiki, to learn about what other librarians around the world do in their respective jobs. It is very inspirational!

Internet Librarian 2011 http://librariesinteract.info/2011/10/19/internet-librarian-2011/ http://librariesinteract.info/2011/10/19/internet-librarian-2011/#comments Wed, 19 Oct 2011 05:31:19 +0000 Michelle http://librariesinteract.info/?p=1996 Internet Librarian 2011, with the theme “Revolutionizing the Net with Content, Connections & Conversations”, is heading into its last day at Monterey, California – but its not too late to watch the Live Stream (if you’re a night owl), or follow the live action from the participants views on Twitter. (follow the hash tag #IL2011 or #InternetLibrarian)

Internet Librarian 2011

Much as we would like to be there, we can still get the latest on what’s coming out of the conference through the Conference Blog. Alternatively, the conference is also being well covered by the likes of David Lee King and Librarian in Black, or one of the officially listed conference bloggers.

If you want to see the presentations, you can download them, but have to login. (User name/Password: il2011/il2011)

Don’t forget that Internet Librarian International in London is coming up, on 27th and 28th October, where more great content will be shared.

And once you have been suitably inspired, ALIA Biennial is seeking abstracts for the conference in Sydney in 2012.

Days 26-29 #blogjune – the home stretch http://librariesinteract.info/2011/06/29/days-26-29-blogjune-the-home-stretch/ http://librariesinteract.info/2011/06/29/days-26-29-blogjune-the-home-stretch/#comments Wed, 29 Jun 2011 01:58:47 +0000 Michelle http://librariesinteract.info/?p=1957 We’re in the final stretch of #blogjune for 2011, but our participants are giving their all in this final run to the line and there is plenty more great reading to be enjoyed.

So with sincere apologies with Dorothea Mackellar, here is the Sunday 26th to Tuesday 28th summary of #blogjune posts, mashed up into the first two verses of the wonderful poem My Country.

The love of food blogs and fireflies

Of Mills and Boon in the NLA

Of 30 more things and juggling

And a windows display in the USA

Crowd sourcing and social engagement

Games nights and an A – Z of me

Should I stand or should I go

In which I am pleased

I love an infographic

Jamming and planning ahead

Mobile accessibility

and asking What have you read

Making friends through Twitter

and tweet up creativity

Time travel reads and 23 things

and on choosing a conference committee

———————

So it doesn’t make much sense of a poem, but each link will as you go and read the posts. And leave a comment for all our hardworking #blogjune participants. I know how hard it has been to keep coming up with something new and worth reading each day.

Or was it a different five books in My Street, Ballarat, Queens Birthday Holiday. Ah well, doesn’t matter.

Now that its winter again, its time to consider 100 articles that every librarian should readAha! Sad songs say so much.

So be open, enjoy the chance to be lounging about and enjoying video game collections, Library Programmes and Libraries I’ve loved.

But be careful – Big brother is watching!

Day 10 #blogjune (late) http://librariesinteract.info/2011/06/12/day-10-blogjune-late/ http://librariesinteract.info/2011/06/12/day-10-blogjune-late/#comments Sun, 12 Jun 2011 07:57:54 +0000 CW http://librariesinteract.info/?p=1896 I don’t know if there was a theme to Friday’s posts.

People are certainly writing about interesting topics!

Elissa ponders the differences between blogging and academic writing. This is a lesson some writers of library blogs need to learn too…

Corin tells us about a photography project he’s working on: 52 Laughs - This project has me taking a portrait of people laughing every week for a year. Some great photos, well worth a look!

Michelle considered the issue of work uniforms. I must confess to mixed feelings on these personally. On days where I don’t feel like bothering with my outfit, they’d be good, but on all other days I suspect I’d find them limiting and annoying.

Fiona thinks about swearing and blasphemy. Must admit, I seldom think about the origins of phrases like “geez”…

Kim’s about to go on holidays. (We hope she has a great time, and look forward to hearing all about it!)

Mal wrote about discovery layers. Are libraries really making our collections discoverable?

Hoi writes her responses to the seven meme. I love memes both as writing exercises, and as means to learn more about everyone.

Bronwyn needs to make a tough decision. Go give Bron your opinion!

Bookgrrl writes about support for her library from her local community. Hope the outcome is a good one.

Ghylene’s been unwell, and wonders what people do to entertain themselves while resting in bed. Do you read traditional paper books, or use gadgets? I note that a commenter says he/she prefers to keep their bedroom technology free.

Snail’s started his Sydney Film Festival viewing. I look forward to the reviews!

Sally strengthens the foundations of the Internet. Very cute!

Sophie shares the adventures she’s been having with a 5kg block of chocolate. I am having trouble visualising that much chocolate!

Kate wonders if taking work home is a good idea. Personally, I avoid it where I can.

Purple Specs continues her reminiscences on technology. Are all these techs (mobile phones, ubiquitous computing) really so new? I can’t imagine life without them!

Clare shares a link to a non-library blog which she reads. Great idea – what non-library blog(s) do you read, and why?

Penny signs off on the week. That’s how I felt on Friday night, too!

Jo tells us about teen lockdown at her library. I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it again – why didn’t my public library have such a thing when I was a teen??

Kate had a day off. And may she have many more, well-deserved breaks.

Alisa knows her limits. Very important indeed, and cannot be underestimated.

Katie tells us about Banjo the dog. I completely relate to how important pets are in our families.

Kris tells us about a show she went to, and thinks about the All Blacks. And I have no comment, as I’m not a sports fan… :)

Girl with shoes tells about her love for Harry Potter. There seem to be a fair few Harry Potter fans among us…

The New Technologies for Libraries blog informs us that the Supernova Pop Culture Expo is travelling the country at the moment. Who’s going/gone?

Sean thinks about the challenges of settling into a new job. This is always a challenge, and then one day you realise you’re completely settled in…

Day 6 Roundup – visiting neighbours and friends http://librariesinteract.info/2011/06/07/day-6-roundup-visiting-neighbours-and-friends/ http://librariesinteract.info/2011/06/07/day-6-roundup-visiting-neighbours-and-friends/#comments Tue, 07 Jun 2011 00:15:08 +0000 haikugirloz http://librariesinteract.info/?p=1867

Sharing the Library Love

As I was walking to work today I was thinking about a metaphor to describe #blogjune. For me reading the blogs is like popping in to visit neighbours and catching up with friends. Many of the people blogging are part of my PLN (Personal learning network) and for those I haven’t met virtually or IRL (In Real Life) it is an opportunity to get to know new neighbours.

I must confess that since I have become a twitter convert, I use my PLN to filter the interwebs for me and I rarely visit my blog feeds. When I do I usually to mark all read and move on. So it is a real challenge for me to read through so many blogs but it is always fun to catch up with old friends and neighbours and make new friends.

Monday’s Meme

@malbooth joined the meme with the seven things meme started by the Bun-toting Librarian, Fiona. She has promised a meme for every Monday of the challenge.  Librarian in the mirror, Blogfest at Tiffanys, Ruminations also joined the memey goodness. For all those that have visiting NYC on their to-do list – I will be there on Saturday!

Outed

Sophie outed herself as a Harry Potter Fangirl. I wouldn’t be surprised if there a lots of Potter fangirls and boys in this challenge.

Recipes

Music

Corin listed 12 songs that changed his life an excellent meme which I think I will use soon. There is definitely a strong 80s influence in his list.

Home

  • Sardonicsmile shared some of the home improvements she has made recently
  • Over on birdeystreet you can read about the armchair that keeps coming back
  • Across the ditch where there was a public holiday Paul Hayton worked his socks off around the house

Play

  • Morgan uses Tagul tag clouds (see Peta’s post) to explore two different periods of his life. The tag clouds show that he has become more focussed in his blog posts. If you have been blogging for a while I recommend having a go and comparing different periods of your life
  • Over on Angels have the phone box find out about the Wordfoto app
  • @Gigglesigh shares her words with friends addiction
  • Softies are taking over at Katie’s workplace

Reflection

  • Justgirlwithshoes is thinking about where to next with her career
  • Fiona ponders the merits of interfiling the Australian literature collection in the 800s (I agree by the way)
  • With Great Power – considers donating his X-men books to the Library after seeing the latest installment of the X-men movies and battles with autocorrect
  • Katie talks about how relationships have changed since Jeremy passed away
  • Kris posted a great video about cake or death feat. lego and Eddy Izzard!

Now I feel like tea and cake maybe on my next round up when I visit again. I will leave you with this question from Michelle the Connecting Librarian:

If you were asked to write one sentence to a child, about the importance of libraries, what would it be?

Peace out
