<p>Unnameable Books, a Brooklyn bookstore, recently featured in Gothamist after they created an <a href="http://gothamist.com/2008/06/07/buried_in_books.php" target="_blank">in-store display</a> of all the oddities they have found in used books. Also mentioned in the post was the discoveries that <a href="http://www.abebooks.com/docs/Community/Featured/found-in-books.shtml" target="_blank">AbeBooks</a> have made over time.</p>
<p>So let&#8217;s share &#8211; what have you found in returned library books/secondhand books or&#8230; your own books?</p>
<p>I wish I could say I have some exciting discoveries but beyond train tickets, receipts or other patrons return slips I&#8217;m yet to be so lucky!</p>

<p>Members only event – Explore the State Library of Victoria &#8211;  behind the scenes!</p>
<p>ALIA Victoria invites members for a special tour of the State Library of Victoria.</p>
<p>In what promises to be a fabulous evening, you will get an introduction to the Library’s history, an outline of the slv21 initiatives and hear more about the new Ballarat Offsite storage.</p>
<p>Then on for a fantastic tour of areas such as the closed stacks, La Trobe Library, Redmond Barry Reading Room, Genealogy Resources, Arts Library etc.</p>
<p>Afterwards, you are then more than welcome to join others for dinner afterwards at a restaurant to be decided.</p>
<p>Where: State Library of Victoria, Cnr La Trobe Street and Swanston Street, Melbourne</p>
<p>When: Tuesday, August 15th 2006. Meet in the foyer of the Library at 5.30pm for a 5.45pm sharp start.  The tour should conclude by 7pm.</p>
<p>Cost: Free</p>
<p>RSVP with your ALIA membership number by Friday 11th August to Jill Baker, is essential.<br />

<p>Due to popular demand, the ALIA NewGrads Group in Victoria is hosting a<br />
panel event of speakers who have moved between different sectors in the<br />
library industry. The four panellists are:</p>
<p>* Cheryl Walker, from Melbourne Grammar School &#8211; Wadhurst Library, after a<br />
long time in public libraries Cheryl is now the Librarian at MGS Junior campus.</p>
<p>* Doreen Sullivan, currently working as a cataloguer for DA Services, after<br />
14 years as a public librarian Doreen has spent the last 2½ years in<br />
various contract positions working in both government department and health<br />
libraries.</p>
<p>* Lisa Donnelly, from LaTrobe University, started at the Law Institute,<br />
moved into health, and is now working at a university library.</p>
<p>* And finally, Aaron Tunn, from the Peter MacCallum Central Cancer Library,<br />
has probably tried every possible job in libraries (approximately 25!)<br />
doing contract work, including a vendor stint with Ebsco.</p>
<p>These speakers combined will produce a wealth of knowledge for people<br />
wanting to cross over sectors. We invite you not only to attend this event<br />
but also submit any questions that you may have to present to the panel so<br />
the night can be as resourceful as possible.</p>
<p>Craig Anderson and the RMIT Library have again kindly supplied the Swanston<br />
Seminar Room.</p>
