What's SL for if not to join in parties held by people in different time zones and in different parts of the world?? You'd be welcome..but probably not too awake :)

Glad to know others are interested and we'll definitley let you know how it went...probably with a summary here on LINT and more detail on VLINT

The party sounds like a fun idea! I was thinking of crashing (not being an Australian librarian, but a Canadian one). Then I figured out your party is running 4 am - 6 am my time. Eep! Well, if I can't sleep maybe I will show up.

Please do report back, though, in case us onlookers can't make it.

Cheers,
Canadian Connie

The Alliance people have put a notecard on the porch of our building with a guide to prims. Our land has a "prim budget" , which limits the number of physically complicated objects we can have there. The bookshelves are 1 prim, the cat was 31 prims..so I've asked Walty to remove it .

Here's the notecard. We hope the blog we are making to put this type of stuff will be ready by next week:

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
We thought this might be helpful to those of you moving in :) Please contact Lorelei Juneot or Abbey Zenith with any questions.
=============================
Moving In a Prim Primer: The quick guide to setting up your area or your library.
=============================
Objects in Second Life are made up of what are known as primitives or prims for short. Each object you see is made up of prims. Sims (areas of SL) have a limit to the number of prims that can be tolerated by a server. This is one of the reasons that Sims are divided up into parcels.

Your parcel will have a prim limit. To find out what your prim limit is, right click on your land, go to About Land and then click on the Objects tab. You will see the number of Primitives Parcel Supports (maximum you can have on your parcel) and below it you will see Primitives On Parcels (what you actually have).

To find out how many prims are in a piece of furniture or object you want to use, right click on the object and go to Edit (if you see a tiny pop up with a button that says More, click it to expand the window). On the General tab about middle way down the pop up window , you should see the number of primitives. It will say something like "1 Object, 5 Primitives".

Some of the smallest objects on SL can have a high prim count. To learn more about prims and how to make objects you can take one of the classes that Eiseldora Reisman is offering. As always, feel free to contact me or Lori if you need help :)

Also, to cut down on lag the Land Manager, Brackish Ludwig has asked that we not use any particle producing objects, except on special occasions.

btw, for a REALLY impressive Library, see the Health Library at 171,226,39 (it's on its own island called HealthInfo Island). Direct PubMed searches with results that float in front of you, entire rooms on one topic ... as a health/medical librarian myself (well, in the past and in the future; just not right now), I am VERY impressed.

'ello all; sorry, I can't get on during weekends at the moment, so it's only lunchtime AEST that I'm around. My Mac can't support the software ...

Chuffed at the though we've acquired a library cat. There used to be a website documenting library cats - I wonder if SL ones count??

For the "nuts'n'bolts" project, what about SLlibsAU, or variations on the "second life libraries Australia" theme? Or even virtuallibsau?

Yes..godd fun. And Hypatia pointed out...the Oz library is next to Kansas Library. And then I realised this morning that I'm Emerald, as in "Emerald City".

Maybe we should build a yellow brick road between the buildings :)

Well that went well. 4 of us managed to make it to the Oz library at the same, despite a 3 hour time difference. Feeling a bit tired now :-)

Hi TB good to see you're here..and that you've made it there.

The Kansas Library people next door are very friendly and helpful and ALWAYS seem to be there. They'll even give you a free T-Shirt.

Anyone interested in meeting at the SL library building tonight? (Sunday 19th November) at 9pm W.A. Time? That's the earliest I can reliably make it, but I can try to pop in earlier.

I'd love some other people to put some bits and pieces in the building...or give some ideas...I'm really just fiddling to get used to the environment.

I'm setting up a separate blog to hang off LINT for the "nuts 'n' bolts" info about the project. We're still trying to work out what to call it. Any ideas?
